Hunting the animals who destroyed his life, Nathaniel Myer has few resources. He loses everything save the clothes on his back and a crumpled wad of papers he got off of a crooked detective. His life comes down to just one purpose: justice—or vengeance, depending on your point of view. He's certainly no one's hero.
But even as he closes in on a sociopath the law just can't seem to touch, Nate finds himself the reluctant guardian to a ragged band of misfits—a cantankerous old army veteran, an emotionally disturbed kid, and a mother and child hiding out from their case worker.
Then his life takes another series of blinding turns and, with final justice threatening to slip through his fingers, Nate discovers that his toughest test is just starting.

NATHANIEL MYER - Prequel to Hell

Sunday Jan 16.
07:15 a.m. – This is how it begins. I’m feeling swamped and would love nothing better than a Sunday morning lie-in, but church starts in an hour and Lauren says that afterwards, we need to talk.

08:15 a.m.
–Our congregation is like a big family, with all the love and strife that comes with it. And in the end, nothing’s more important than family.

08:45 a.m.
– Lauren and Li’l J head off to Sunday school in the rec room. My wife’s been a Sunday school teacher since our son was two years old. Everyone loves her. I’m smart enough to love her too.

08:48 a.m.
– The pastor preaches about blessings and forgiveness. I’m praying God will forgive me because I know my family is the real blessing in my life.

09:45 a.m.
 – Lauren’s tidying up after Sunday School. I help the youth band pack up then try to track down our little hell-raiser to tell him it’s time to go. Usually, it’s hard to even find him.

10:30 a.m
. – Lunch at Leon’s is a Sunday ritual, as is trying to talk Li’l into having more than just apple juice and cheesecake, and Lauren more than salad and tuna. Having said that, she's got a great body.

12:00 noon.
– Heading back home, I fill up the SUV so I don’t have to stop at the gas station on the way to work in the morning. I like my job but lately, things at the office have got a little complicated.

12:21 p.m.
– At the traffic light, I pull up beside a beaut of a 1978 Mercury Marquis. Flawless paint work, gleaming chrome, sexy V8 engine roar. I admire it. I even chat with the passengers.

12:21:31 p.m.
– This life I have, the life I work for and nurture, and yes, sometimes get impatient with, this life ends forever. Only I don’t know it…yet.

Another glimpse of upcoming NATHANIEL MYER's storyline

Software engineer, Nathaniel Myer, is a restless suburbanite with a guilty secret, whose world is shattered when mere chance puts him in the path of a genius sociopath with the sweet face of an angel and plans for a cold-blooded criminal empire.
Nathaniel brushes off the fleeting encounter but in the hours that follow, he falls asleep in the arms of his wife and awakes to unimaginable horror.
Nate battles back through frailty, grief, guilt, and ultimately rage when time after time, the four suspects, guided by their clever leader, skip ahead of the police then completely through their fingers and underground. Unearthing them becomes Nate’s sole purpose until his obsession destroys what little he has left.
On the street, owning nothing but the clothes on his back and a crumpled wad of papers he got off a crooked PI, more than ever Nate cares for little beyond his single-minded crusade.
His plans and Fate’s aren’t completely in alignment, however, because when a cantankerous army veteran with unusual PTSD, an emotionally disturbed kid with too many body piercings, and a feisty mother and brutally honest child all need a hero, he’s somehow always in the right place at the right time and the man he used to be can’t do other than help them. As long as none of his temporary wards depend on him long term, because Nate doesn’t plan on sticking around anywhere once his own crusade ends, and it doesn’t matter that new emotions are beginning to painfully prod their way through cracks around his hardened soul.
As it happens, staying sharp and playing reluctant street guardian draws him closer to the very animals he’s hunting and, most importantly, their elusive leader.
Then abruptly, Nate’s life takes another series of blinding turns, landing him at yet another unexpected crossroads—confronted by the bridges he’s burned without regard, the lives he’s endangered without foresight, and the question of where it will all end.

He might have to choose between the justice he’s sought so long, letting a habitual killer smile and slip away again, and daring to hope once more.  Or he might just have to become the ultimate human sacrifice.

(I know, I know. This novel took a little longer than expected ('a little', ha!), but I don't like bringing something to readers until it's up to scratch and worth their time and money. Now it’s been through the paces and is in the publishers’ hands, so stay tuned for its official release date later this year. And look out here and on facebook for more freebie glimpses of the high stakes, emotional storyline. In the meantime, if you haven't read The Nude, get your hands on a copy already! Check out the reviews here.)

Coming Soon: Island Pulp Detective Series

Q: So, Margaret, you’re going to do a fiction series with a recurring character all. What’s it about? Vampires? Serial killers? A geeky mathematician?
A: Nope. It’s pulp fiction. Not Quentin Tarantino’s movie—the genre pulp fiction.

Q: Pulp fiction?! You mean those fast-paced stories from way back in the 1920’s and 1940’s?! Goodness, where did that idea come from?

A: I’m a pulp fiction and old black and white movie fan. Dates my taste, I know, but everyone likes a quick, cheap thrill now and again and pulp delivers. A few years ago I unearthed my Black Lizard Big Book of Pulps and delved back into Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe and it hit me that I’d like to try something similar.

Q: So why did you take so long to do this?

A: Because The Nude was a priority at the time, as was learning this new world of publishing and book marketing (shudder). One thing at a time. And anyway I didn’t want to recreate the same old brash Bogart-types or dye-bottle dames. I wanted to modernize and give it my own slant.
Q: And did you?
A: We’ll see. It hit me that I could kill several birds with one stone: create a recurring character fans could get to know without committing myself to over a year writing a whole novel, write short stories—something I really enjoy, offer mystery, action, and a bit of naughtiness which everyone enjoys, AND write about my homeland, modern Barbados, which is a ripe setting for simmering intrigue under all that bustling, balmy neatness. Plus it helps me beat off the homesickness when it strikes.

Q: Does your series have a name?

A: Island Pulp Mysteries…or Island Pulp Mystery Series…or Island Pulp Detective Series. I’m having trouble committing to one, but not to the individual storylines!

Q: So who is your main character?

A: Roger Barrisford Gooding, a local private investigator and quintessential Bajan man—sexy and aggravating. (His is a very Barbadian name, by the way).

Q: So the first story is done? When can we read it?

A: Yes, it’s done. I’m now doing what I call the ‘dressing up’ but it’s an e-pub—pdf and e-readers—so it won’t take as long as for traditional hard print format. By the end of March it should be out.

Q: And what’s this first story called?

A: Good & Kinky

Q (& raised brows): Kinky, huh? Ooh, boy. What’s it about?

A: It’s about a woman who goes missing after her boyfriend…( a smile and head shake)…Nah. On second thoughts, you can read about it next week on
Facebook.
